One month, one question: how far can a painting go from the things you recognise and still be a picture of the world?
Around 1910, Cubist painters began testing a different bargain: a picture no longer had to obey one fixed viewpoint or keep an object whole. This month sets two answers beside each other: Gris fractures and rebuilds the things he depicts; Malevich removes the depicted object altogether. Walk it as an exhibition argument, not a chronology, and decide where your definition of a picture changes.
